The municipality of Mallnitz has set itself the goal of establishing an alpine campsite, as there is currently no such facility in the village or the surrounding area. The focus is on public recreational use – for both tourists and the local population. The planned campsite will serve as an attractive base for a wide range of activities in the region, whilst also helping to increase the number of overnight stays.
A key aspect of the project is its alignment with the current trend of so-called ‘glamping’. The term is a portmanteau of ‘glamorous’ and ‘camping’ and describes a form of camping that combines comfort, the experience of nature and exceptional accommodation. This trend has been growing strongly for years and has its origins in Africa and Thailand, amongst other places.
Glamping is now also becoming increasingly established in Europe. In Austria, there are already various options available that offer luxury camping. These range from high-quality facilities at existing campsites to smaller, nature-oriented and family-friendly establishments in rural areas. With the “Alpin Camping Mallnitz” project, the municipality is specifically capitalising on this trend and creating a contemporary tourist offering that meets the requirements of modern guests.
